Lady Spartan offense kept in check at Cameron

By Russ Green-Sports Editor

With the offense struggling most of the day, the Richmond Lady Spartans closed out their final game at Saturday’s Cameron tournament with a 16-0 eruption over St. Joseph Lafayette.

The Lady Spartans, now 4-4, lost the first game 6-2 to Benton. Richmond then dropped a 4-1 decision to Jefferson and a 3-0 final to Polo to wrap up pool play.

Richmond had 5 hits in the first game and scored a run in the top of the first and one more in the sixth. Alexis Thaxton drove in Mallory Cole for the first Lady Spartan run. Cole drew a leadoff walk and then came home on Thaxton’s single. Elizabeth Windsor began the sixth for Richmond with a single and scored on an error.

Nicole Camp pitched the first 4 innings and allowed 5 runs – only one was earned – on 3 hits, a pair of walks while striking out 3. Paige O’Doniel pitched one inning and gave up an unearned run.
