Golf sweep gives Richmond a perfect mark in MRVC matches

By Russ Green-Sports Editor

The Lady Spartan golf team put three more MRVC victories on the board Monday at Adams Pointe Golf Club with a quad sweep. Richmond improved to 7-0 in league matches with wins over Grain Valley, Pleasant Hill and Excelsior Springs.

The Lady Spartans shot 200, which was 31 shots ahead of Excelsior Springs, while Grain Valley followed with a 235 and Pleasant Hill was 2 shots off that score.

Makenzi Turley had the low Richmond round for the day as the Lady Spartans also improved to 11-1 overall. Turley carded a 46 on the par-36 course, which was good enough for runner-up honors behind Grain Valley’s Kaylee Hutchens. Richmond coach Murray Dennis said Turley played well in recording her best nine-hole score to date.

“I was very impressed with all phases of her game, even though she missed a couple of putts that would have lowered her score more,” he said.

Breann Mathis followed with a 47 for the Lady Spartans, while Maddy Zeller shot a 53, Becca Westbrook carded a 54 and Brooke Ross came in with a 57. Dennis said the entire team had a good afternoon.
