Visiting Marshall handles RHS

By Russ Green-Sports Editor

The Lady Spartan tennis team had a tough draw to begin the new season Wednesday afternoon. Richmond hosted area power Marshall at the Maurice Roberts Park courts and dropped an 8-1 decision.

Richmond coach Duane Bastob’s crew was missing a few of their players due to not having enough practices in to be eligible. The lone Lady Spartan victory came at No. 1 singles with junior Bailey Busse picking up a hard-fought 9-7 decision over Taylor Crawford.

Four Lady Spartans were shut out in singles play. No. 2 Sami Miller lost to Payton Beeler, followed by No. 3 Jamie Baker falling to Amanda Harrelson by identical 0-8 finals. Emily Harris at No. 5, lost to Jesse Lappin and No. 6 Kaela Anderson lost to Elizabeth Pomerenke by 0-8 scores.

Breanna Miller dropped her No. 4 singles match 2-8 to Idalia Aguilar.
