Blackie an instant hit with Humane Society volunteers

The Humane Society of Ray County has a selection of adoptable cats and dogs at its shelter. Regular adoption days are each Saturday and Sunday from 1-3 p.m. at 200 S. College St. (the old county jail).
Adoption coordinator Shirley Saulter can answer questions and set up times for shelter visits at 816-776-8576 or 816-456-4976.
Adoption fees are $100 for dogs or $80 for cats, which includes spay/neutering, shots, tests and microchipping for dogs.
Information on these pets and others at the shelter is available at or at
There are many fine cats and dogs available this week. Among them is Blackie, a very friendly cat.
The Society’s new volunteers immediately fall in love with her because she tends to run right over and rub on their legs.  She does not, however, like loud noises.
