RHS golfers head to districts after successful regular season

By Russ Green-Sports Editor

The Richmond Spartans tuned up for today’s district golf tournament by wrapping up an undefeated MRVC East season with a win over Lexington and also by taking second at the Husker Invitational on Wednesday.

The Spartans played in the Husker Invitational to take the place of the washed-out Cameron Tournament from a few weeks ago.

The format featured individual, best ball and scramble formats at the par 70, Higginsville Country Club.

“It is a different format – kind of a change from the normal tourney format,” Richmond Coach Murray Dennis said. “It gave the guys a chance to have a little fun before we finish the regular season.”

The Spartans combined for a 234 total – a dozen strokes behind first-place Barstow. Odessa shot 245 to take third place, while Knob Noster finished fourth with 260.

Philip Kincaid shot 38-38 for a 76 to win the individual competition by 5 shots over runner-up Nathan Kleoppel of Odessa.

Dennis said Kincaid has had a great sophomore season in his first year of varsity golf.
