Netmen fall to Higginsville

By Russ Green-Sports Editor

The Spartan tennis team was able to salvage one victory in its meeting with Higginsville Thursday at the Maurice Roberts Park courts.

Richmond’s 8-1 loss was the first for Richmond in three league tests, while also falling to 2-3 overall.

Richmond picked up its lone win with Chad Truby defeating Elijah Rhead in the No. 4 singles match 8-6.

“Higginsville is definitely a good team, but I don’t think they are as good as we made them look,” Richmond Coach Julie Baker said. “We gave away too many points. I don’t think any of the doubles exchanges lasted more than three. We have to keep the ball in play better.”
Jeremy Chrisman fell at No. 1 to Kyle Taylor, 1-8, followed by Jesse Bulk losing his No. 2 singles match against Brian Bueker 4-8.

Parker Johnson lost his No. 3 singles match to Mark Fine by a 1-8 final. Collin Williamson came up short in his No. 5 singles match against Matt Gibson by a 4-8 final, and Chase Shipley dropped a 3-8 decision at No. 6 to Kyle Holcomb.
