Meyer sets the pace for Bearcat golfers

By Russ Green-Sports Editor

Orrick’s Austin Meyer turned in the low Bearcat round in the last two matches to help Orrick to a split. Meyer was the medalist on Friday at the Shirkey Golf Course as Orrick picked up an 18-shot win over visiting Norborne. He followed that with a 44 Tuesday, but the Bearcats dropped a dual to visiting Barstow.

Meyer shot a 46 to earn medalist honors Friday, which was one shot ahead of Kyle Osborne, the lone St. Mary’s golfer in the field.

Orrick ended the afternoon with a 201, with Norborne combining for a 219. Tina-Avalon had one golfer – Noah Meyers, who shot a 68.

Mason Karnes shot a 49 for the Bearcats, which was one shot ahead of Jake Jennings’ total. Kendall Kelley carded a 56, with Tanner Wyse rounding out the scoring with a 58.

Ross Lyon had the low Norborne round with a 49 and was the only Pirate below 50.

Barstow’s Alec Adkins carded a 4-over par 40 Tuesday afternoon to earn medalist honors, while teammate Trip Walsworth finished as the runner-up for the day, just one shot out of the lead.
