OHS golfers look to veteran leadership this season

By Russ Green-Sports Editor

Orrick Coach Mitch Comstock will be leaning on his two state qualifiers to help lead the Bearcats to a successful golf season this spring. Orrick returns a half-dozen letter winners from last year’s team that placed fourth in the Class 1, District 7 tournament.

Senior Austin Meyer is a two-time qualifier for the state tournament and had it not been for a dreadful start at the sectional tournament last year, could have very well made it three years in a row. Meyer missed advancing to state by 6 shots.

Comstock said he is expecting big things from Meyer this spring.

Junior Mason Karnes also brings state experience to the Bearcat golfers. Karnes finished ninth at the district tournament last year, and followed that with an 11-place showing at sectional and ended the year with a 68th-place finish at the state tournament.

Two other juniors are among the six returning letter winners for Orrick.
