Jo’s Jottings: Holidays were busy time for families to gather, enjoy celebrations

By Jo Ellen Dale

Susan and Bruce Adams hosted the family Christmas party at their home.  Those present were Jamie and Jeremy McGinnis and kids,  Lindsey, Kassie and Kaden, Tina Adams, Larry Brune, Betty and Robert Grigsby, Justin Hook and his fiancee, Courtney Stagner. and their son, Gavin, and Hap and Roxanne Adams.
Larry and Kathy Best attended Christmas Eve candlelight service at First Baptist Church, then enjoyed their annual visit with Kathy’s mother, Lenore Crozier, for Christmas snacks and watching “It’s a Wonderful Life”.  Christmas afternoon Larry and Kathy entertained with a gift exchange and meal with their children and grandchildren, Heather and Danny Farnan, Taylor, Joshua and Sophia of Overland Park, Kan; Tyler and Daphne Best, Hudson and Decker of Kearney; Trevor and Bethany Best, Lyla and Cade of Kansas City, Mo.; and, of course, Lenore Crozier. Lyla Best, daughter of Trevor and Bethany Best, spent this past Friday and Saturday with grandparents, Larry and Kathy Best.
Another family gathering was held last weekend as my son Chuck and I went to Arkansas where we had a grand Christmas celebration.  My daughter-in- law Liz Dale, who is a marvelous cook, prepared a feast for us Thursday evening consisting of boeuf bourgignon (marinated beef and vegetables in wine sauce), salad, bran rolls and for dessert, creme brulee (pudding topped with brandy and set afire).
The next evening we all went to a trendy restaurant called “The Flying Fish” and enjoyed all sorts of specialties including fish tacos, salmon, crab legs, shrimp and the best hush puppies that I have had in a long time.  In addition to those already mentioned those joing us included Matt, Jami and my great grandson, Myers Dale; Chris Dale, Jeff Dale and Rob Devereux, Liz’s father from St. Louis.
I apologize for the brevity of this column but I hope to hear from more of you next week as I am sure there were many more Christmas family gatherings.
Ring in the New Year 2013 with hope and joy.  May it be one of the best for all of  you.
