OHS’ Dennis, Tone-Pah-Hote receive I-70 honors

Orrick senior Derrick Dennis was the lone Bearcat selected to the I-70 all-conference first team by the league coaches. Dennis, who carried for a state record 65 times in Orrick’s lone victory of the season, was named first-team running back.

Dennis rushed for 1,652 of the Bearcats’ 2,236 yards this season. He scored 13 of the Bearcats 15 rushing touchdowns as well. The 5-9, 180-pounder was also named second-team defense at linebacker where he recorded 100 tackles – including 77 solo stops this fall. Orrick had one other Bearcats named to the offensive side with junior Ethan Tone-Pah-Hote named second-team lineman.

League champion Wellington-Napoleon had four first-team offensive and five first-team defensive selections.

The I-70 Conference first-team offense (seniors unless otherwise noted): Quarterback: Jacob Beckemeyer, Wellington-Napoleon. Running backs: Luke Stuenkel, soph., St. Paul’s; Alex Martinez, jr., Santa Fe; Derrick Dennis, Orrick. Receivers: Christian Bryant, Well-Nap; Gerhard von zur Muehlen, jr., St. Paul’s; Jake Ruskey, Well-Nap. Linemen: Hayden Brown, Concordia; Jason Hilden, Well-Nap; Isiah Roepe, St. Paul’s; Brett Schaberg, Well-Nap; Jake Brookshier, Crest Ridge. Kicker: Jonathan Foster, St. Paul’s.
