Persell, Tweedie finish in Top 10 at Oak Grove CC Invitational

Two Spartans finished in the Top 10 to help the Spartans open the cross country season with a second-place team finish at the Oak Grove Invitational Thursday afternoon at Frick Park.

Richmond ended the meet with 57 points. Smithville grabbed first place with 30 points, followed by Odessa with 83, Pleasant Hill with 111, Barstow with 112 and O’Hara with 134.

Senior Justin Persell had the top Spartan finish with his time of 19 minutes, 46 seconds taking sixth place on the 5K course. Matt Tweedie placed eighth in 20:20. Chris Sammons of Smithville had the top time of 18:51, while Barstow’s Deko Rickett was the runner-up with his time of 19:13.

Richmond’s Wyatt Bulk just missed a top 10 finish with his time of 20:41 putting him in 11th. Roy Branson placed 20th in 21:32. Also for Richmond, Daniel Dehn finished 23rd (21:35); Luke Rumbaugh was 35th (23:14); and Jesse Bulk was 41st (23:47).
