Board denies $9,110 raise for assistant superintendent

By Mark Johnson/Richmond News

A request to increase Richmond R-XVI Assistant Superintendent Julie Stevenson’s salary by $9,110 for the 2011-12 school year fell short by a 3-1 margin in a closed board session June 21. Four affirmative votes were needed for the measure to pass. Stevenson’s current annual salary is $75,092.

School administrators – except Superintendent Dr. Damon Kizzire – board secretary April Green and board member Gwen Weate, Stevenson’s mother, were excused from the room, according to closed session minutes. Board members Chris Minnick, Connie Taylor and Joey Duncan voted for the salary increase, Jon Thoreson against. Board members Steve Rittmiller and Dale Vandiver were not present at the meeting.

Board members voted on a motion to raise Stevenson’s salary by approximately $20,000 over a two-year period, beginning with a first-year increase of $9,110.
