A fly over, skydivers and aerial fireworks display highlights of Richmond chamber annual event

 A family-friendly event that celebrates the nation’s birthday will be Friday, June 29, at Southview Park in Richmond. Rain date is Sunday, July 1.American Celebration begins with a free swim at Southview Pool from 6 to 9 p.m. Other activities, including live music at the park’s amphitheater and children’s games, also begin at 6. Kansas City Chiefs mascot, KC Wolf, will be on hand to entertain the kids. Grilled hamburgers, hot dogs, ice cream and drinks will be available for purchase.

New to the celebration is a fly over by the KC Flight Formation team, taking place at 7 p.m. The group has performed at Chiefs games, Wings over Whiteman and the St. Joseph air show.

At dusk, the Missouri River Valley Skydivers circle around the park and descend on the ballfield.

The star of the show, the Richmond Area Chamber of Commerce’s fireworks show, will begin around 9:30 p.m. Participants are encouraged to bring a lawn chair and enjoy the show.

Those planning to shoot fireworks in Richmond city limits are advised to use extreme caution because of the dry conditions, City Administrtor Ron Brohammer said. Watering ground where fireworks will be ignited is recommended.
