Richmond’s Trey Duncan was a runner-up in the USA Wrestling Missouri State Tournament held March 24-25 at the Hearnes Center in Columbia. Duncan was one of five wrestlers from Richmond participating with the Mid Missouri Wrestling team to earn their way to the tournament.
Duncan placed second in the 90-pound bracket in the 8-and-younger division in his third year of wrestling. He began his first state tournament with a win by fall in the opening round. He defeated Xander Schnaedter of Joplin in 1:43 and then followed with another fall over Hallsville’s JT Ehlers in 2:56.
In the semifinals, Duncan defeated Dakota Martin of Owensville, 7-3, to advance to Sunday’s finals where he met Caiden Robertson of the Terminator Wrestling Academy of Springfield. Duncan lost in the finals, by a 10-0 major decision, but ended up the season with a 28-14 record, while winning 20 of those by falls.
Jimmie McFall lost his first match in the 90-pound bracket for 12 and younger, but came back strong in his next round. McFall dropped a 4-0 decision to Francisco Perla of Bonhomme in the first round. He bounced Ty Glendenning of ACE by a 14-4 major decision, but in the next round dropped a heart-breaking 2-0 decision to Alisha Howk of the Strongarm Wrestling Academy.
