Big R-XVI board field squares off at forum

series of questions at the Richmond Teachers Association forum held Monday, March 26, at Richmond High School. Seven of the eight candidates on the April ballot participated in the event.

When asked about his decision to run for office, Corey Price said he would bring a fresh viewpoint to the board as an outsider. He also shared his experience of working with young people as a volunteer coach.

Billy Gaines also spoke of bringing a different viewpoint to the board, having seen what works at schools in other parts of the country. “I can see the bigger picture,” he said.

Incumbent Connie Taylor cited her service and training as a school board member as reasons she should be re-elected. “I’m hoping you will choose experience,” she said.

“I have experience in budgeting, strategic planning and personnel,” Jon Thoreson said. “I want to become more involved in the community and I believe that this is the best way for me to do so.”
