Lent fish fries appeal to palate, help needy

By David Knopf/Richmond News

For the hundreds of people who enjoy the fish, potatoes and trimmings the Knights of Columbus serves up for its annual Lent fish dinners, it’s more about pleasing the palate than meeting the needs of the community.

But for fish-fry chef Dave Owens, member Dave Daniels and the other 21 Richmond-area K of C members, the focus is directing the proceeds to people in need.

As an example, the Knights dedicated proceeds from one of its dinners to the family of Emilee Hendricks, a Richmond girl who needed a double-lung transplant.

“Two years ago, one of our fish dinners went to donate to that family,” Daniels said. “That’s a good example. If there’s a family in need, then that’s a good use for that money.”
