Gorham wins second meet of the season

Four Spartan runners placed in the top 20 at Tuesday’s

Smithville Invitational cross country meet held at

Smithville Lake. Cody Gorham won his second meet in

three outings Tuesday as he covered the 5K course in 16

minutes, 54 seconds, followed by four St. Joseph Central

runners led by runner-up Jeff Bachman with 17:07.

Central easily captured the team title with 27 points,

while the host Warriors placed second with 61. Richmond

finished third in the 12-team event with 93 points

and St. Pius X was a distant fourth with 124.

Justin Persell placed 12th for the Spartans with a time

of 18:19, followed by Matthew Tweedie in 19th with

18:48 and Luke Bailey in 20th with 18:49. Cody Horton

placed 45th with a time of 20:09, while Daniel Dehn

(50th) with 20:22, and Roy Branson (74th) with 22:13

rounded out the Spartan runners.
