Arthur Dean Van Hoy

Arthur Dean Van Hoy, 84, of Richmond, died at 1 a.m. Wednesday, April 27, 2011 at Shirkey Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center in Richmond.
Arthur was born June 30, 1926 in Butler, Mo. to John and Christie (Sargent) Van Hoy. He married M. Jackie Brown of Gainesville, Mo. April 15, 1955; she survives of the home.
In addition to his parents, Arthur was preceded in death by one brother, Winston Raybourn; and one sister, Dolores Cumpton.
Additional survivors include: one son, John A. Van Hoy of Kansas City, Mo.; one daughter, Rhonda Jane Benton of Richmond; seven grandchildren and their spouses, Arron and Brady Prestia, Deana Van Hoy, James Van Hoy, Mark Aaron Benton II, Hannah Benton, Jonathon D. Benton, John A. Van Hoy, Jr. (who went to be with the lord on December 28, 2010) and Nicole; three great-grandchildren, Tyler Van Hoy, J.B. Prestia and Landon Cleaveland; and two sisters, Mary Spotts of Smithville, Mo. and Sandra Aldrich of Washburn, Mo.
Arthur was a 1944 graduate of the Appleton City High School. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran of WWII spending 26 months on LST 807 in the Pacific; he was at Iwo Jima when he saw them raise the famous flag. After the war he worked for Standard Oil and several truck lines. He then worked for Ford Motor Company in the maintenance department as a pipe fitter and retired after 20 years in 1992. He was a member of the Siloam Springs Baptist Chapel in Excelsior Springs. He had lived most of his life in the Rayville area until moving to Richmond in 2001. Arthur was a great patriotic soldier who went home to be with Jesus and his grandson.
Visitation will be Friday, April 29, 2011 from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond. Funeral services will be Saturday, April 30, 2011 at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be Monday, May 2, 2011 at 10 a.m. at the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Higginsville with military honors.
