Spartan wrestlers win six medals at Brookfield

This weekend’s Brookfield Tournament served as a measuring stick for the Spartan wrestling team with districts less than a month away. Seven of the 10 top-ranked Class 1 schools were competing this weekend at Brookfield.
“This was almost like a mini-state in a few weight classes,” Richmond Coach Ken Simmons said. “We have several areas we need to get better at with only three weeks until the district tournament. I hope we can step up the intensity and get better before then.”
The Spartans picked up six medals in the A pool. Kane Southwick had the highest finish for Richmond with his second-place medal in the 152-pound bracket. Southwick won four of his five matches – three of them by falls.
