Two Spartans make MRVC finals

The MRVC wrestling tournament turned out to be a two-team race Friday and Saturday at Harrisonville. The Oak Grove Panthers totaled 430 points to take the team title, with Excelsior Springs finishing as the runner-up with 364.
Harrisonville was a distant third with 274 points, with Pleasant Hill at 265.5
Richmond had two wrestlers make the finals and placed seventh in the 12-team field with 214.5 points. Odessa was fifth with 253, followed by Lexington with 235. The Spartans finished ahead of Grain Valley with 196.5 points, Knob Noster (158.5), Carrollton (147.5), Holden (146) and Higginsville (116.5).
Chris McFall and Reny Ries advanced to the championship matches for Richmond.
McFall lost a 6-3 decision in the 125-pound finals to Roman Vega of Knob Noster. Reny Reis drew Chaz Lyman of Excelsior Springs in the 160-pound finals and lost 12-5.
The Spartans had four other medal winners for the weekend.
Jake Halterman took third place at 275 when he won by fall over Austin Rogers of Excelsior Springs in 2:59. Colby Bowers lost his third-place match at 215 to another Tiger, Jason Withrow. Bowers lost by technical fall, 18-3.
Kane Southwick placed fifth at 152 when he won a 6-5 overtime decision over Ryan Hoagland of Knob Noster. Tyler McGaugh was sixth at 112 when he lost by fall in 5:44 to Jack Shull of Odessa.
Oak Grove and Excelsior Springs ended the tournament with four champions each, with Lexington earning three. Pleasant Hill had two champions, and Knob Noster had one.
