Bearcats back to break-even mark after stopping Lathrop

The Orrick Bearcats have battled back to the .500 mark after Friday night’s home-opening 59-45 victory over Lathrop. The back-to-back Bearcat wins give Orrick a 3-3 record heading into the Holiday break.
Orrick took a 38-33 lead into the final 8 minutes, when the Bearcat offense put together a 21-point effort to seal the win.
Cameron McGlothlin led the scoring with 19 points for Orrick, with 12 of those coming in the second half. Two other Bearcats reached double figures with Ty Griffin scoring 11 and Kalija Rogers adding 10.
“Our big boys, McGlothlin, Griffin and Luke Searcy, are playing better offensively which relieves some of the pressure off Clayton (Jones),” Orrick Coach Morgan Dickson said. “Rogers went to the hole hard tonight and got to the line. This was a nice team win.”
Rogers hit 6 of 9 free throws for the game, and was 5 for 7 in the second half. Jones scored 9 for the Bearcats, followed by Searcy with 5, Larry Blair with 4 and Aaron Blyth with a free throw.
Orrick held a 14-12 lead after the opening 8 minutes, and the Bearcats opened up a 26-21 advantage at the half before each team scored a dozen points in the third period.
“We played OK, not particularly well, but we played tough defense,” Dickson said. “Lathrop kept hanging with us until the fourth.”
Nic Hoskins led the Mules’ scoring with 10 points – all of those in the final half.
Orrick hit half of its 30 free throw attempts, while Lathrop converted 14 of 22 from the stripe.
The Bearcats will return to the court on Jan. 11 when they face Maysville in the first-round of the Bill Burns Classic in Lathrop.
