Bulldog shooting touch goes cold

Northwest of Mendon grabbed a big early lead on visiting Hardin-Central Thursday night on the way to dropping the Bulldogs to 0-5 with a 58-25 CLAA victory.
The Bulldogs had just one field goal in the opening period as they fell behind 14-2.
Hardin-Central struggled from the field as the Dawgs hit just 20 percent of their shots, while Northwestern connected on 35 percent. Nick Summers paced the Eagles with four 3-point buckets and a game-high 20 points, while Derrick Foster added 16.
Mark Carpenter led Hardin-Central with 13 points and 10 rebounds – 9 of those boards coming on the defensive end.
Northwestern outscored the Bulldogs 13-10 in the second period for a 27-12 halftime advantage and then took a 42-17 lead into the final frame.
Also scoring for the Bulldogs were Cole Leakey with 4, Austin Chase with 3, Joey Gorham and Randy Estenbaum with 2 each, and Dillon Crosby added a free throw. The Dawgs hit 3 of 9 from the stripe, while Northwest made 13 of 21.
