Orrick comes up short in finals

After getting past Braymer in the semifinals of the Class 1, District 15 volleyball tournament at Wellington-Napoleon Wednesday night, second-seeded Orrick could not get past top-seeded Kansas City Lutheran in the finals.
Lutheran, 28-4, advances to the Sectionals at Santa Fe on Saturday to face the winner of tonight’s game between Mound City and Rock Port.
Orrick, which started the season with six straight losses, ends the year with a 14-15-2 record.
Lutheran won the opening game of the match 25-9, but Orrick battled hard in the second game before being eliminated 22-25.
“This was a tough loss for the girls,” Orrick Coach Susan Rodenberg said. “They really played hard the second game.”
Amanda Rodenberg led the way at the net with 17 attacks and 7 kills with a pair of blocks, and defensively had a half-dozen digs.
Amy Isenhour continued to build on her assists as she added 13 more to her total. Jenna Shaw and Brooke Endsley had 8 service points each, with Endsley hitting a pair of aces.
The Lady Bearcats began the night with a two-game sweep of Braymer in the semifinals.
Orrick captured the first game 25-22, and advanced to the finals with a 25-17 victory to finish the sweep.
“The girls started slow in the first game, but they really came alive,” Rodenberg said. “Shelby’s (Harth) serves were on, and Amanda and Brooke both had strong games.”
Harth had a team-high 14 service points with 2 aces.
Rodenberg had 16 attacks, with Endsley credited with 15 attacks. Both had 10 kills. Rodenberg also had 5 aces among her 12 points.
Isenhour had 11 service points with 3 aces and 23 assists.
