Hits elusive for Richmond

Carrollton’s Kristine Daugherty put the muzzle on the Richmond bats Thursday as the Lady Trojans took a 7-0 MRVC East victory over the visiting Lady Spartans. Daugherty held Richmond to just 3 hits while striking out 7 to drop the Lady Spartans to 1-6 in the league and 4-12 overall. Carrollton remained unbeaten in seven conference games and improved to 12-3 overall.
“We did not play well at all,” Richmond Coach Staci Maddux said. “We have to develop some consistency in our play.”
Carrollton scored all the runs it would need with a 4-run burst in the home half of the first inning, highlighted by a home run from Shaina Cauble. The MRVC East leaders would add a run in the second inning and tack on 2 more in the fourth.
Richmond got singles from Chelsea Hook and Kayla Hewitt, while Stephanie Williams collected her 10th double of the season to establish a new RHS record. Adrian Tackett faced 29 batters in her 7 innings in the circle.
She allowed 5 earned runs on just 7 hits, with a walk and a half-dozen strikeouts.
Hannah Mayden led the Carrollton batters with 3 hits, including a double, with Ragen Mathis collecting 2 hits.
Richmond lost the junior varsity game by an 8-0 decision. The Lady Spartans had singles from Evyn Pearson, Haley Bentley and Leslyn Cole.
