East outscores West in first 8-Man All-Star game

The East came out on top of the First Annual Missouri 8-Man Football Coaches Association All-Star Game 44-26 Saturday night at William Jewell College in Liberty.
Hardin-Central Coach Kirk Thacker served as an assistant for the East squad, which featured former Bulldog standouts Daniel Carpenter and Lukas Milligan.
The contest featured the best 8-Man football players in Missouri hitting the field as high schoolers for one last time.
The Offensive MVP of the game was Scoot Anderson of South Holt. He threw for 104 yards and a pair of touchdowns, while rushing for 153 yards and another score as the quarterback of the winning team.
The Defensive MVP was David Buhman of St. Joseph Christian. He led the East in stopping the powerful West offense throughout the night as the vocal leader of the defense, while making key plays at key times.
The game opened up with the West using up over half of the first quarter as they marched down the field and scored on a 4-yard run by Connor Nicholas. The East would quickly answer. It took just over 3:00 for Anderson to find Cody Luke on a 46-yard touchdown pass followed by Kyler Hiatt’s 2-point conversion run for the lead. The West would then regain the lead on a pass from Miles Clifton to Connor Nicholas on the ensuing possession. The East then scored the next three times on a Luke run, Hiatt run, and a pass from Anderson to Hiatt.
Miles Clifton was able to find Kolton Jones for a 10-yard touchdown pass at the end of the third quarter for the West. The East answered with Anderson’s 21-yard run. The final West score came on a 57-yard double-reverse pass from Jacob Carter to Cole Rosier, and Hiatt would wrap up the scoring with an 8-yard run for the victorious East squad.
