RHS girls fall at Higginsville

Although the Richmond Lady Spartans remain winless in the MRVC East, coach David Littrell continues to see progress in his team. Richmond dropped to 0-7 in the league and 4-15 overall after a 53-38 loss at Higginsville.
In the January meeting between the Lady Huskers and Richmond, the Lady Spartans struggled against Higginsville’s pressure in a 56-30 home loss, but on Tuesday, Littrell said his team handled the pressure much better.
“We did an excellent job distributing the ball to the open player throughout the game,” he said. “In the third quarter we had some great looks, but the ball just didn’t fall in the basket. The girls handled their full-court pressure very well. We turned their press into some great transitions points.”
Littrell added that his girls did make a few bad decisions on passes, and added his team left too many points at the free throw line by hitting just 8 of 17 attempts.
Baylyn Jennings led the Lady Spartan scoresheet with 13 points, with Kayla Hewitt also reaching double figures with 10. Chelsea Hook scored 6 for Richmond, followed by Whitney Martens and Stephanie Williams with 4 apiece, and Arissah Williams with a free throw.
Higginsville, now 4-2 in the conference and 15-5 overall, was led by Lynna Kays with 15 points, Nicki Oberg with 14, and Jennifer DeHaven with 10.
