Shooting heats up for Lady Dawgs

Hardin-Central hit just over half of its shots from the field as the Lady Bulldogs rolled to a 66-29 CLAA road victory Tuesday night at Norborne.
Brooke Derstler and Megan Layman had the hot hands for the Lady Bulldogs. Derstler hit 10 of 17 from the field including half of her eight 3-point attempts on her way to a 24-point night. Layman hit 7 of 9 from the field as she added 16 points for the Lady Bulldogs who improve to 13-3 overall and 5-2 in league play.
Both got off to a good start to help Hardin-Central take control of the game early as Layman and Derstler scored 8 points each to help build the Lady Bulldogs’ 21-7 first quarter lead. Norborne managed just two field goals in the second period as the visitors opened up a 40-11 lead at halftime. The Lady Bulldogs then took a 59-21 bulge into the final 8 minutes.
Two other Lady Bulldogs scored in double figures with Allison Oyler hitting for 13 points, and Reanna Newham adding 11 more while Morgan Nail scored 2.
Layman also led the way on the boards with 8 rebounds, followed by Brianne McGuire with 7 and Newham with a half dozen. Derstler and Newham dished out 4 assists each, with Layman credited with 3 helpers.
Layman also had 4 steals with Derstler adding 3 of the Lady Bulldogs 13 thefts for the night.
Kalie Hogan led the Norborne scoring with 10 points.
Norborne hit 8 of 18 free throws, with Hardin-Central connecting on 3 of 9 from the stripe.
