Free throws sink Stet

Mike Brown and Logan Molmer were too much for Stet Saturday night in the third-place game of the Braymer Invitational. Brown hit 6 of 8 free throws in the fourth period on his way to scoring a game-high 26 points to help Tina-Avalon to a 70-63 decision over the Cardinals.
Molmer added 19 more for the Dragons with 6 of those in the final 8 minutes as they outscored the Cardinals 23-8 to erase a 55-47 Stet lead. Chris Desselle, who ended the night leading Stet with 20 points, scored 6 of the Cardinals 8 points in the final period.
One of those buckets came on a break-away dunk, but it wasn’t enough as Tina-Avalon sealed the win from the free throw line.
Desselle, and two other starters, Kaleb Newham and Ryan Foster both fouled out and the Dragons took advantage by hitting 10 of 16 free throws in the final period.
For the night, the Dragons hit 20 of 31 from the stripe, while Stet converted 5 of 7.
Newham scored 18 before leaving the contest, with Foster adding a dozen more. Also scoring for Stet were Derek McGinnis with 9, and Michael Gervy with 4.
Stet led 24-14 after one quarter, and 39-32 at the half.
