Loss drops Lady Spartans to Husker Classic fifth-place game

Lexington outscored the Lady Spartans 12-6 in the fourth period Tuesday night for a 45-36 victory to push Richmond into the consolation game of the Husker Classic in Higginsville.
Richmond, now 0-3 for the season, will face either Brookfield or Carrollton Friday at 5 p.m. in the East gym.
The Minutewomen took a 33-30 lead into the fourth quarter, and held Richmond to just one field goal and 4 free throws in the final 8 minutes. Anne Summerland and Karmen Swartz led the Lexington surge in the fourth frame as Summerland hit a pair of field goals while Swartz scored 7 of her 12 points on 2 field goals and a 3-pointer.
Lexington held a 9-7 lead after one quarter and increased the advantage to 22-19 at the half. Each team scored 11 points in the third period.
Baylyn Jennings once again led the Lady Spartan scoring with 12 points as she hit 6 of her 8 attempts from the free throw line. Kayla Hewitt connected on all 4 free throws on her way to an 8-point night.
Also scoring for Richmond were Whitney Martens with 5, Chelsea Hook with 4, Hannah Alpers with 3, and Arrisah Williams with 2.
Julie Summerlin paced the Lexington scoring with a game-high 15 points.
Lexington hit 6 of 10 free throws, with the Lady Spartans converting 14 of 18.
