RHS athletes receive honors from coaching staffs

The final fall sports banquet of the season was held Thursday in the Richmond High School commons as coaches, sponsors and parents honored the Spartan football and Richmond cross country teams, along with the cheerleaders.
Cheerleader sponsor Misty Sims recognized her squad. Spartan cheerleaders this fall were: Adrienne Balthrop, Caley Blair, Alysha Darnell, Collin Dorton, Chelsea Fares, Katie Hagedorn, Cortney Hogan, Hannah McGaugh, Elena Morrison, Paige Mrosak, Jillian Nobile, Samantha Nolker, Shelby Parker, Amanda Powell, McKenzie Robinson, Lauren Simmons, Lisa Thompson and Taylor Vandiver.
Richmond cross country coach Steve Hitchcock handed out letters and certificates of participation to his squad.
Special awards were then presented to three members of the Lady Spartan team. Deanna Barger, a state qualifier, was selected as the Outstanding Runner and was recognized as the team captain. Senior Krystal Denham was named the Most Improved Runner, while senior Hannah Alpers was also recognized as being a state qualifier.
Henry Smith, a junior, was the lone Spartan runner to qualify for last week’s state meet. He was also named as the team’s captain and Outstanding Runner. Luke Bailey was selected as the Outstanding Freshman, and junior Blaine Broderick was named the Outstanding Newcomer.
The Richmond freshmen and junior varsity football teams were presented with letters of participation, and then head coach Rob Bowers handed out letters to his Spartan squad. Special awards were presented to Skylar Wright, a senior, who was named the Most Valuable Offensive Lineman, and another senior, Aaren Mathes, was selected as the Most Valuable Defensive Lineman.
Junior Arthur Bivines was named as the Most Valuable Offensive Back, with senior Kyle Ash tabbed as the Most Valuable Defensive Back. Senior Preston Maples was presented with the Spartan Award.
