Hunt named NJCAA All-American

Former Lady Spartan Cassie Hunt is one of five returning starters for the North Central Missouri College Lady Pirates hoops team that is preparing for the season opener tonight.
Hunt, a sophomore, and her teammates will take on State Fair Community College in Sedalia this evening.
The former Lady Spartan has been named to the NJCAA Division II Women’s Pre-Season All-American team.
The 6-2 sophomore averaged 16.7 points and 8.8 rebounds a game last season for the Trenton school. Hunt is one of two players from Missouri appearing on the first team.
Whitney Holmes of Brown Mackie College, who averaged 23 points and 11 rebounds along with 6 assists and 3 steals per game last season, is also named first team.
Other returning starters for the Lady Pirates this season include captains Jodi Yocum of Mound City and Kedra Dierking of Union, along with Whitney Bennett of Browning and Trisha Ireland of Trenton.
NCMC coach Jenni Croy is expecting things from her sophomores.
“With one year of experience under their belts, our sophomores have really stepped up in our preseason,” she said. “They have welcomed the role of leadership and realize what it takes to get our program on track for our 2008-09 schedule.”
Incoming freshmen for the Lady Pirates include Monica Wilson of Gilman City, Bailey Owen of Kearney, Adrienne Ford of Hamilton, Melissa McGinley of Albany, Kelia Hardin of Columbia and Christy Hart of Princeton.
The first home game for the Lady Pirates will be Saturday against Hesston College of Hesston, Kan.
