J. C. White

J. C. White, age 86, formerly of Richmond, died at 3:05 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 27, 2008, at the Baptist Home in Chillicothe.
J. C. was born Dec. 12, 1921 in Richmond, the son of John C. and Cleo (Watkins) White. He married Anna Louise Davidson of Henrietta, on Oct. 18, 1942; she preceded him in death on Nov. 7, 2005.
J. C. was a retired rural mail carrier after serving 28 years with the United States Postal Service. He was a United States Army Air Corps veteran of WWII. He served his country on a B-29 as Flight Engineer with a rank of Flight Officer, which he received from the University of Florida. He was a 1939 graduate of Richmond High School, where he was a captain of the basketball team. He was a member and deacon of the Richmond First Baptist Church. J.C. was also co-owner of White Realty in Richmond. He had lived in Richmond most of his life, before moving to Higginsville, in 2001 and then to Chillicothe in 2007.
Survivors include: two daughters and one son-in-law, Linda Elwood and her husband, Carl, of Chandler, Ariz., and Judy Roark of Kansas City, Mo.; one grandson, Craig Roark; and one great-granddaughter, Madeline Roark.
In addition to his parents and wife, J. C. was preceded in death by one brother, Argus White and one sister, Thelma LaMar.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Baptist Home in Chillicothe.
Visitation will be held from 1 to 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 30, at the Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond. Funeral services will immediately follow the visitation at 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 30, at the funeral home. Burial will be in Sunny Slope Cemetery where military graveside services will be conducted by the American Legion Post #237 and the Richmond VFW Post #4398.
Arrangements are under the direction of Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond.
