Jones picks up seventh win for Richmond

Hannah Jones picked up the lone Lady Spartan victory Tuesday afternoon as Richmond dropped an 8-1 MRVC East matchup to the Lady Huskers at Higginsville.
Richmond’s 8-1 loss drops the Lady Spartans to 1-8 in conference matches, and 1-10 overall.
Jones improved to 7-4 for the season as she defeated Sara Wiley 8-4 in the No. 3 singles match.
“It was a tough fight all night, but the girls showed we could stick together as a team and continued to play hard,” Richmond Coach Zach Danner said. “Kaylie Root showed a lot of potential in her early 3-2 lead, but just wasn’t able to close the door.”
Root lost her No. 4 singles match to Lisa Chen, 3-8.
In the other singles matches, No. 1 Brittany Munson lost to Tricia Goring 8-2; No. 2 Ali Rickart lost to Melissa Bueker 2-8; No. 5 Hannah Hillegas lost to Misha Dupree 0-8; and No. 6 Lissa Long lost to Emily Rolan 1-8.
In doubles, Munson/Jones lost to Goring/Bueker 2-8 at No. 1; Rickart/Hillegas lost to Chen/Dupree at No. 2, 0-8; and No. 3 Long/Root lost to Wiley Sappington 1-8.
The junior varsity girls continue to give a solid effort according to Danner. The doubles team of Samantha Palmer/JoAnne Weinen defeated Chute/Marsialis 6-3 for the lone Richmond win.
