Alumna takes helm of RHS varsity girls hoops program

A former Spartan has returned to coach Richmond varsity girls basketball. Kaylee Vantrump, a 2017 Richmond High School graduate, was hired this spring to succeed Chad Snyder. Snyder left the program after four seasons, including a 13-13 campaign in 2021-22. Vantrump, who played for Richmond and then at MCC-Penn Valley and Rockhurst University in Kansas City, returns to Richmond from Battle High School in Columbia, where she was a junior varsity coach. Looking to return home, she asked Brandon Quick, the high school principal, “to put in a good word for me for a teaching position and he mentioned a coaching spot (was) open,” she said during an open gym session June 23 for high schoolers and middle schoolers at the high school. “I just thought that would be really cool – to kind of return to my hometown, and hopefully, have a lot of good impact on a girls team,” Vantrump said.
