Robust sanity

Most believe the Bible is a book telling people how to get right with God and how to make it to Heaven.
But, did you know that the Bible also tells us how to live so we are happy here on planet earth? Yes, the Bible tells us how to have a strong and healthy view of life. Let’s call it a “robust sanity.”
As I write this article, my little granddaughter Lilly just walked into my office wearing a shirt that says, ‘happy, happy, happy.’ I thought, “Now that’s what I’m talking about.”
There is a book in the Old Testament called Proverbs that says a lot about health, emotions and attitudes towards others. It talks about eating and drinking healthy things, about maintaining friendships, about having healthy sexual lives, about honoring our parents, about raising our children, even how to handle our money. Wow, you reckon God could have something to say about all of that?
We humans have such a desire to learn. And just about everyone would agree a good education is necessary, and in today’s world that is especially so.
The book of Proverbs goes a step further than just educating us or giving us knowledge.
In this book, we are told about living in a practical way – one that produces a healthy mentality.
I meet people all the time that have good educations – they know a lot of facts – but they are still searching for what will make them happy in life.
Proverbs 1:7 says, “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge.” That’s clear isn’t it? Knowing God is the key to wisdom.
Let me suggest you sit down with your bible. Find a translation you can understand. Turn to the book of Proverbs and discover God’s point of view on life.
I have been trying to read a chapter in Proverbs every day for many years. I just keep reading it over and over again.
I’m still learning. More and more, I’m discovering that what is said – is so practical, so down to earth, such common sense – that I dare not try to live without this information being put to use in my life. I’m totally convinced it provides “robust sanity.”
