Lee Roy Rowland (06-21-2010)
Lee Roy Rowland, 90, of Richmond, died at 10 a.m., Saturday, June 19, 2010, at Shirkey Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Richmond.
Lee Roy was born July 15, 1919 in Orrick, the son of Alva and Lille (Johnson) Rowland. He married Sarah Alice Summers of Ray County on Sept. 13, 1941; she preceded him in death Sept. 3, 2003.
Lee Roy worked for General Motors for 30 years before retiring in 1979. He lived in Richmond most of his life. Lee Roy was a member of the Richmond First Baptist Church, the U.A.W. Union Local 31, and a life member of the Lexington VFW Post 4052. Lee Roy was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
Survivors include: two daughters and sons-in-law, Diana Coffman and her husband, Tony, of Blue Eye, Mo., and Patricia Downs and her husband, Mike, Chillicothe; one sister, Nina Lewis, Richmond; three grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Vernon Rowland and Harold Rowland; and three sisters, Imogene Moss, Mae Garrett and Mattie Danner.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Village Hospice in Lexington.
Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m., Tuesday, June 22 at Thurman Funeral Home, Richmond. Funeral services will follow the visitation at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Richmond Memory Gardens, Richmond, where military graveside services will be conducted by Lexington VFW Post 4052.
Arrangements are under the direction of Thurman Funeral Home, Richmond.
