Ilene Barbie Banks (03-10-2010)
Ilene Barbie Banks, 89, of Orrick, passed away Monday, March 8, 2010, at White Ridge Health Care Center in Lee’s Summit.
Ilene was born June 7, 1920 in Newton, Mo., the daughter of William Jennings and Beryl (Barbee) Coffman. She married George William Banks, Sr. April 4, 1942 in Corpus Christi, Texas; he survives of the home.
In addition to her husband, survivors include: two sons, George “Joe” Banks, Jr. and wife, Donna, Jenks, Okla., and Rick Banks and wife, Cynthia, Lee’s Summit; one sister, Billie Jean Kilgore, Mosby; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Her parents, one son, Michael Banks, and two brothers, Vaughn Coffman and Dean Coffman preceded her in death.
Visitation is from 1 to 2 p.m., Sunday, March 14 at Polley Funeral Home, Excelsior Springs. Funeral services will follow at 2 p.m., at the funeral home. At the families request, the burial is private and will follow at Crown Hill Cemetery.

Karen Marie Jackson (03-09-2010)
Karen Marie Jackson, 66, of Lawson, passed away Sunday, March 7, 2010 at her home.
Karen was born March 12, 1943 in Elyria, Ohio, the daughter of Theodore James and Bessie Marie (Lathwell) Speigle. She married Richard Allen Jackson Dec. 16, 1977 in Kansas City, Mo.; he survives of the home.
In addition to her husband, survivors include: her mother, Bessie Speigle, Independence; five children, Dawn Jones and husband, Rick, Windsor, Dean Stupp, Liberty, Kathy Ford and husband, Dave, Independence, Matt Jackson and wife, Amber, Rayville, and Laura Romazon and husband, Josh, Lawson; one sister, Jeannine Wright and husband, Lyle, Independence; eight grandchildren, Ashley Hubbard, Markus Burns, Stephanie Johnson, Sandra Stupp, Katie Holman, Kylah Jackson, Arissa Jackson and Cooper Jackson.
Her father and two brothers, Theodore Speigle, Jr. and Richard Speigle, preceded her in death.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Washington Street Restoration Branch Church, 15528 Washington School Rd., Excelsior Springs, MO 64024.
A celebration of life service will be at 3 p.m., Saturday March 13, at the Washington Street Restoration Branch Church, Excelsior Springs. A private inurnment will be at Richmond Memory Gardens.

Frances McLallen (03-08-2010)
Frances McLallen, 87, of Richmond, died at 1:08 p.m., Saturday, March 6, 2010, at Shirkey Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Richmond.
Mrs. McLallen was born June 6, 1922 in Colorado Springs, Colo. to Joe and Maria Canella. She married Bartlett McLallen, Jr. of Richmond on April 4, 1945; he preceded her in death on Jan. 18, 1995.
Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Dennis and Pam McLallen of Overland Park, Kan.; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Angie and Nick Ford of Richmond, Pamela and Mike Lorentz of Overland Park, and Carol McLallen of Kansas City, Kan.; one grandson; four step-grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Tom Canella, Johnny Canella and Charles Canella; two sisters, Margaret and Rose; and one grandson, Jerry Ford.
Mrs. McLallen was a homemaker and of the Christian faith.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the ALS or the VITAS Hospice.
Graveside services will be Wednesday, March 10, at 2 p.m. at the Richmond Memory Gardens, Richmond. Thurman Funeral Home of Richmond is in charge of the arrangements.

Lucille Gilbert (03-08-2010)
Lucille Gilbert, 89, Richmond, passed away March 4, 2010 at Shirkey Leisure Acres.  Lucille was a life-long Ray County resident.  
She was preceded in death by her parents, Hugh Cleveland and Minnie Lee (Dudgen) White; brothers Houston, Clifton and Buford; and husband Herbert O. Gilbert.  She is survived by her daughter Vicki (Justin) Kohl of Richmond and brother Allen White.  Lucille was a member of Morton Church in rural Ray County. At her request, she will be cremated and scattered with no formal services.

Dora Joann Frye (03-08-2010)
Dora Joann Frye, 75, of Excelsior Springs, died Friday, March 5, 2010 at North Kansas City Hospital.
Joann was born on June 15, 1934 to Lester Carl and Madeline (Crowley) Todd. She was united in marriage on Oct. 22, 1950 to Richard L. Frye. Joann had been a custodian at the Lewis Middle School in Excelsior Springs before she retired in 1999. She attended church at the Flack Memorial Christian Union Church in Excelsior Springs.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Survivors include her husband of 59 years, Richard L. Frye of the home; her children Gary and Lori Frye of Augusta, Kan.; Karen Etheridge and Garry Whitworth, Patty and Gary Easley, Mark and Gina Frye, Lee Ann and Mary Eldredge, and Cheryle and Lance Workman, all of Excelsior Springs; brothers Bob Todd, Johnny Todd and Carl Todd; and sisters Frances Clancy and Sue Walsh. Seventeen grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren also survive.
The family will greet friends from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at Gowing Funeral Home in Orrick. Funeral services will follow at 11:30 a.m. in the chapel. Burial will be in South Point Cemetery near Orrick.

Reba Mae Clevenger (03-08-2010)
Reba Mae Clevenger, 84, Excelsior Springs, passed away Saturday, March 6, 2010 at Liberty Hospital.
Funeral Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Polley Funeral Home, Excelsior Springs.
Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery, Excelsior Springs.  The family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Reba was born on May 8, 1925 in Ray County, the daughter of Daniel and Fleeta (Mills) Sharp.
On August 23, 1943, she married Charles Clevenger who preceded her in death in May of 1998.
She was a member of the Pisgah Baptist Church, Excelsior Springs.
She enjoyed gardening and also loved country music.
Survivors include three daughters: Linda Brock and husband Doug of Excelsior Springs, Betty Hill of South Carolina, and Donna Rusk and husband Michael of Excelsior Springs; four sisters, Ruby Broadhurst of Excelsior Springs, Frieda Skinner of Lawson, Martha Jenkins of Richmond, and Margaret Warner of Excelsior Springs; eight grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Besides her parents and husband, Reba was preceded in death by one son, Larry Clevenger; one sister, Opal Blyth; and two great-grandchildren, Dominic and Koren Reed.

Robert Lynn Gray (03-08-2010)
Robert Lynn Gray, 66, of Polo, died at his home on Friday, March 5, 2010.
Bob was born on Nov. 21, 1943 in Caldwell County, Mo. to Lynn Adair and Virginia Lee (Poor) Gray. On Aug. 6, 1966, he married Fern Reva Clariday. She preceded him in death on June 11, 1984.
Survivors include two sons, Billy Gray of Kingston and Shawn Gray of Polo; one daughter, Shelby McKee of Lawson; one sister, Anne Underwood of Cameron; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents and wife.
Services will be Tuesday, March 9, at Pitts Funeral Home in Braymer at 1 p.m. Visitation is today from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be at the Cowgill Cemetery.

Ruth Marie Haynes (03-05-2010)
Ruth Marie Haynes, 85, of Richmond, formerly of Lawson, passed away Wednesday, March 3, 2010 at Ray County Memorial Hospital in Richmond.
Ruth was born July 29, 1924 in Council Bluffs, Iowa, the daughter of George W. and Catherine Elizabeth (Barker) McDonald.
For several years Ruth was a bookkeeper at Kansas City White Goods and later worked for Bob’s IGA in Gladstone. She was a committee member of the Site Club and the Eagleton Center in Richmond. She enjoyed playing bingo and hand quilting.
Survivors include: dear friends, Norma Wright and Laura and Robert Hatcher, Richmond; and many friends and neighbors.
Cremation. A graveside committal service will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, March 11, at Lawson Cemetery. There is no public visitation.

Zachery Alexander O’Doniel (03-05-2010)
Zachery Alexander O’Doniel, 20, of Richmond, died Thursday, March 4,
2010 due to injuries sustained in an automobile accident near Warrensburg, Mo. Zack was born on February 9, 1990 in Excelsior Springs to Jessie Joe O’Doniel and Kathy Lynn Foster.
Survivors include: his father, Jessie Joe O’Doniel of Independence, his mother, Kathy Lynn Foster of the
home, one brother, Jacob Andrew O’Doniel of the home, and maternal grandparents, Elizabeth Ann and Phil Foster of Richmond. Several aunts and uncles also survive.
Zack was a 2008 graduate of Richmond High School. He attended DeVry Institute in Kanasas City. He was a member of the Richmond United Methodist Church. He had lived in the Richmond area all of his life.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Zach O’Doniel Memorial Fund.
Memorial services will be Wednesday, March 10, 2010 at 11 a.m. at the Richmond United Methodist Church. Visitation will be Wednesday, March 10, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Richmond United Methodist Church.

Carl J. Swafford (03-05-2010)
Carl J. Swafford, 70, of Rayville, passed away March 1, 2010, at his daughter’s home in Flowery Branch, Ga., after a brief illness.
Carl was born Feb. 3, 1940 in Richmond, the son of Carl E. Swafford and Francis Norris Swafford.
He married Karen Sue Swafford of Rayville on June 30, 1959 in Lexington; she survives of the home. He is also survived by a son, Kenton Dean Swafford of Richmond; a daughter, Carla Sue Swafford Young
and husband, Richard, of Flowery Branch, Ga.; three grandchildren, Jill Friends and husband, Nathan, Caleb Rumbaugh and wife, Cory, and Ben Rumbaugh of Flowery Branch; five greatgrandchildren,
Kali, Neva, and Carlie Friends, and Lane and Noah Rumbaugh; one brother, Donald Swafford and wife, Beverly of Oak Grove; two sisters, Audrey Brown and husband, Mike of Smithville, and Mary Reid of St. Joseph; one sister-in law, Sharon Swafford of Grandview; and several
nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Kenneth E. Swafford.
Carl was plant manager of Sewell Plastics in Kansas City, Mo. before retiring in 2003. He lived most of his life in Rayville. He was a member of the Old Union Christian Union Church. He previously had served for 20 years on the Ideal Industries Workshop Board. He presently was a member of the Ray County Fellowship Board. He served several years on the Inspiration Hills Camp Board. He was a member of the U.S. Army National Guard.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Ideal Industries Workshop or Old Union Christian Union
Church.
Funeral services will be Sunday, March 7, 2010 at 2:30 p.m. at the Old Union Christian Union Church near Lawson. Visitation will be Saturday, March 6, 2010 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Thurman Funeral Home,
Richmond. Burial will be in Crowley Cemetery near Rayville.

Helen Louise (Derstler) Williams Frazer (03-04-2010)
Helen Louise (Derstler) Williams Frazer, 89, formerly of Hardin, died at 2:20 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 23, 2010, at Leisureworld Nursing Home, Brantford, Ontario, Canada.
Helen was born Aug. 1, 1920 in Richmond, the daughter of Charles Edward and Josephine Julia (Whitmer) Derstler.
Helen graduated from Richmond High School in 1938. She worked at the J.C. Penny Store part-time while attending high school. Helen met L.Z. Williams of Hardin, in 1938 when she attended a dance at the “Hardin Community Picnic.” L.Z. asked her to dance and he quickly won her heart. Once it was evident that the U.S. would be going to war, Helen accepted a position in the Office of Inspection at the Lake City Arsenal Department where she was employed until leaving there to go to Florence, S.C. to marry L.Z., who had enlisted in the Army Air Corp and was stationed in South Carolina. They later returned to Hardin and started Eveready Gas and Oil. L.Z. ran the company and Helen provided the bookkeeping. L.Z. and Helen had one child, Candice Sue Williams. At the age of 46, L.Z. began a battle with cancer and passed away 1971 at the age of 51. Helen later married W. H. Frazer, Jr. of Stet. Unfortunately, “Junior” passed away in 1995.
Helen was a former member of the Eastern Star and P.E.O. She moved to Brantford, Ont. in 1996 to live with her daughter, Candice (Williams) Shantz Woodcock.
In addition to her daughter Candice, survivors include: her sister Maxine Gasser, Owensboro, Ky.; her brother Charles Robert Derstler, Cameron; stepdaughter, Karen McBee, and stepson, David Frazer, Stet; granddaughter Angela Shantz Young, Steamboat Springs, Colo.; grandson Derek William Shantz, Kitchener, Ont., Can.; step-grandchildren, Amanda (McBee) Chinn, Shawn and Travis McBee and Jennifer, Jason, and David Brett Frazer; great-grandchildren, Kaleb and Kasen Young, Steamboat Springs, Colo., Ryder Shantz, Kitchener, Ont., Canada and Austin Chinn of San Angelo, Texas.
In addition to her parents and husbands, step-granddaughter, Julie Frazer of Stet; and sister, Lucille Barnhardt of Independence, preceded her in death.
For those wishing to remember Helen, the family suggests a memorial contribution to the Hardin Baptist Church where Helen was a member for many years.
Due to unforeseen circumstances the memorial service date has been changed to Friday, March 19, at 11 a.m. at the Thurman Funeral Home, Richmond. We regret any inconvenience to family and friends the date change may have caused. A private burial will take place in Richmond Memory Gardens, Richmond.
We dearly miss the sister/mother/grandmother who loved us so much and filled our hearts with such laughter. Mother loved to dance and when she was still able, would dance until exhausted. Wishing you wonderful dances in heaven with your loved ones. We love you bunches and bunches!

Edgar Tate, 88, of Rayville, passed away Monday, March 1, 2010.
Edgar was born Dec. 6, 1921 in Macon, the son of Daniel and Hester (Vrugen) Tate. He married Beulah (Armstrong) Tate March 8, 1943; she preceded him in death.
Survivors include: his son, Howard Tate and wife, Cheryl, Lawson; grandchildren Valerie Tate and Roely, Jennifer Eversole and Brad; great-granddaughter, Jackie; daughters Linda Sawyer and Keith, Thornton, Colo., and Betty Spittler and Bernard, Blue Springs; and many family and friends.
In addition to his parents and his wife, his stepson, Emmett Tate, his wife Beulah’s three sisters, and one brother, Frances Johnson, Thelma Graham, Ada Norris and Jesse Armstrong, and his siblings, Frederick, Robert, Everett, Carrie, Ralph, Frank, Ward, Claude and Wayne, preceded him in death.

Enna “Lucille” (Woods) Endsley (03-03-2010)
Enna “Lucille” (Woods) Endsley, 93, of Excelsior Springs, passed away March 1, 2010, at Excelsior Springs Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Lucille was born June 8, 1916 in Ray County, the daughter of Cornelius “Neeley” and Nora (Summers) Woods. She married Vernon I. Endsley
Aug. 12, 1937; he preceded her in death March 29, 1989. Lucille was a member of Excelsior Springs Baptist Church.
Survivors include: one daughter, Mary Elizabeth Smith and husband, Leon, Excelsior Springs; one son, David E. Endsley, Cassville; three grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by an infant sister in 1911.
The family suggests Memorial Contributions be given to Excelsior Springs Baptist Church for the Franklin Graham shoe boxes.
