Mary Jane Joiner (07-03-2009)
Mrs. Mary Jane Joiner, 83, of Orrick, formerly of Kansas City, died Thursday, July 2, 2009, at the Northland Long Term Acute Care Hospital in Kansas City.
Mary was born May 5, 1927 in Roseland, Fla., the daughter of Willie and Madge (Dills) Patton. She married Elmer Lee Joiner, Jr., and lived in Kansas City until his death last year on Aug. 7, 2008.
Mary was a homemaker and member of the Southside Optimist Club in Kansas City. She was an avid Bingo player and loved to travel.
Survivors include: her children and their spouses, Paul Tipton and his wife, Joyce, of Richlands, N.C., Harry Tipton and his wife, Tami, of Roseland, Fla., Terri Honn of Independence, and Vickie Wright and her husband, Larry, of Orrick; one sister, Ann Agent of California; and four brothers and one sister-in-law, Harry Patton, Bert Patton, Troy Patton and Melvin Patton and his wife, Bobbi, all of Florida; nine grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, a grandson James Stevens on June 21, 2008, three brothers, Allen, John, and Tommy Patton, one niece and two nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Sunday, July 5, at Gowing Funeral Home in Orrick. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m., Monday, July 6, at the Gowing Chapel in Orrick. Burial will be in South Point Cemetery near Orrick.

Mrs. Mary Jane Joiner, 83, of Orrick, formerly of Kansas City, Mo., passed away at 2:30 a.m., Thursday, July 2, 2009, at the Northland Long Term Acute Care Hospital in Kansas City, Mo.

Robert Boliver “Bob” DePugh (07-01-2009)
Robert Boliver “Bob” DePugh, 86, of Richmond, died on Tuesday, June 30, 2009 at his home.
Robert was born April 15, 1923 in Independence, the son of Ralph DePugh.
Robert was a researcher and author. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
Survivors include: one brother, Bill DePugh of Belton.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Thurman Funeral Home to help defray funeral expenses.
Cremation. As were his wishes there will be no services.

Larry Anderson (06-30-2009)
Larry Ray Anderson, 48, of Fulton, passed away unexpectedly Thursday, June 25, 2009 in Fulton.
Larry was born Aug. 20, 1960 in Excelsior Springs, the son of Charles Ray and Karen Mae (McCammon) Anderson.
Survivors include: his father, Charles R. Anderson of Independence; two brothers, Scott Anderson of Excelsior Springs, and Charles Anderson of Kansas City, Mo.; two sisters, Mary Anderson and Ellen Anderson, both of Independence; several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews and a good friend, Shirley Hamilton of Fulton.
Larry attended public schools in Lawson and Kansas City, Mo. He was employed by Backers Potato Chip Company in Fulton. He was of the Baptist faith and had been baptized at the Old Mount Zion Church. He enjoyed collecting clowns and especially spending time with his family.
He was preceded in death by his mother in 1994; his grandparents and several aunts and uncles.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m., Monday, June 29, at Polley Funeral Home in Excelsior Springs. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m., Tuesday, June 30, at the funeral home. Burial will be in Old Mount Zion Cemetery near Mosby.

Daniel Bowman (06-30-2009)
Dan Bowman, 70, of Independence, died at 10:07 a.m., Saturday, June 27, 2009, at the Lexington Care Center in Lexington.
Daniel Carson Bowman was born Nov. 27, 1938 in Rockingham, the son of Gene and Hazel (Falls) Bowman.
Survivors include: one sister and brother-in-law, Donna Schannuth and her husband, Albert, of Hardin; one nephew, Kelly Schannuth of Hardin; one niece, Kathy Leakey and her husband, Todd, and their son, Cole of Hardin.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his infant twin brother, Donald Curtis Bowman.
Dan graduated from Stet High School and then went on to receive his Doctorate of Education from the University of Missouri in 1977. He was a teacher, principal and superintendent of schools, having played a role in the education departments of the schools in Browning, Mo., Mount Pleasant, Iowa, and Quinby, Iowa. He had belonged to many educational organizations and was a member of the Rockingham Church of the Brethren.
Private graveside services were held at 10 a.m., Monday, June 29, at the Wakenda Cemetery north of Hardin. The Rev. Chris Cox of the First Baptist Church in Hardin officiated.

Todd Eric Cornine (06-30-2009)
Todd Eric Cornine departed this life Saturday, June 27, 2009 at the age of thirty-three years, four months, and twelve days.
Todd, the son of Marvin Eugene and Brenda Nell Venable Cornine, was born Feb. 15, 1976 in Boonville. On March 30, 1998, Todd was united in marriage to Brandy Marie Howard and to this union two children were born.
Todd was born in Boonville and spent his childhood living in Blackwater. He was a 1994 graduate of Boonville High School and entered into the United States Army shortly after graduation. He served his country proudly for six years, with one year being spent in Korea and was later honorably discharged from the Army. While serving, Todd met Brandy and they were later married in 1998.
Todd spent his spare time boating and fishing and liked to read. He loved his family and cherished every moment spent with his children and his wife.
Todd was a loving husband, father, brother, grandson and uncle, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate his life and accomplishments and will treasure the wonderful memories he has created for his family and many dear friends.
Survivors include: his wife Brandy of the home; two children, Kaylee and Cole Cornine of the home; his parents, Marvin and Brenda Cornine of Blackwater, Mo.; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Martha Fahrenbrink and her husband, Tim, of Boonville, and Tammy Pierson and her husband, Eric, of Richmond; his paternal grandmother Mildred Cornine of Marshall; maternal grandmother Grace Venable of Lamar; his mother-in-law Mildred Coffman of Bloomington, Mo.; a host of nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles, other relatives and many dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather Edwin Venable and his paternal grandfather Archie Cornine.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, July 1, at Allee-Holman-Howe Funeral Home in Camdenton. A private memorial service will be held at a later date.

Dorothy Love (06-30-2009)
Dorothy Madeline Love, 81, of Richmond, passed away Saturday, June 27, 2009, at Shirkey Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Richmond.
Dorothy was born June 22, 1928 in Ray County, the daughter of Wilbur Joseph and Reta Madeline (Cavender) Gulley. She married Donald Louis Love in Oct. of 1946; he preceded her in death Jan. 4, 2004.
Dorothy enjoyed gardening, flowers, canning and especially spending time with her children and grandchildren whom she adored.
Survivors include: one daughter, Jennifer Hosman and her fiancé, Chris Brenton,of Richmond; one son and daughter-in-law, Terry Love and his wife, Wanda, of Richmond; one sister, Joan Herlihy of San Antonio, Texas; four grandchildren, Amy Love, Jerrett Love, Nathan Hosman and Sydney Hosman; two great-grandchildren, Gabriel Mansell and Jayden Love; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, her parents and two sisters, Kathleen Spurbeck and Betty Allred, preceded her in death.
The family suggests memorials to Shirkey’s Care Center Activities Fund.
Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m., Tuesday, June 30, at Polley Funeral Home in Richmond. Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m., at the funeral home. Burial will be in Richmond Memory Gardens.

Mary White (06-30-2009)
Mary Ellen White, 57, of Butler, passed away Sunday, June 28, 2009 at her home.
Mary was born Dec. 28, 1951 in Excelsior Springs, the daughter of William Samuel and Martha Nell (Thompson) Crippen. She married Jeffrey Bart White March 19, 1976 in Excelsior Springs; he survives of the home.
In addition to her husband, survivors include: her mother, Martha Crippen of Excelsior Springs; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Bill White and his wife, Lois, of Excelsior Springs, and Bryon White of Tabor, Iowa; one granddaughter, Shianna White of Excelsior Springs; two brothers, Roy Crippen of Excelsior Springs, and Gary Crippen of Kansas City, Mo.; five sisters, Terry Sutton of Tabor, Iowa, Nancy Crippen and Judy Davenport, both of Excelsior Springs, Billie Nakoneczny of Hamilton, and Connie Chapman of Millville; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and extended family.
She was preceded in death by her father, Bill Crippen on May 14, 2003.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to the American Cancer Society, Working Families’ Friend or the REACH Program.
A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m., Thursday July 2, at Polley Funeral Home in Excelsior Springs. Visitation will follow until 8 p.m.

Kenneth “Toby” Carmichael (06-30-2009)
Kenneth “Toby” Carmichael, 65, of Richmond, died at 8:05 a.m., Saturday, June 27, 2009, at Ray County Memorial Hospital in Richmond.

Kenneth “Toby” Carmichael (06-30-2009)
Kenneth “Toby” Carmichael, 65, of Richmond, died at 8:05 a.m., Saturday, June 27, 2009, at Ray County Memorial Hospital in Richmond.
Kenneth Garland Carmichael was born Oct. 16, 1943 in Kansas City, Mo., the son of Melvin Otto and Lucille (Covey) Carmichael. He married Leah Imogene Claypole of Richmond on Nov. 2, 1963; she preceded him in death on Nov. 22, 1981. He married Laura Eileen George of North Kansas City, Mo., on March 20, 1982; she survives of the home.
Toby was a carpenter and had belonged to the Local 1904 Carpenters Union of Kansas City, Mo., working for 35 years in the area. He was of the Christian faith and had lived in Richmond most of his life. He was a member of the Missouri Horseshoe Pitchers Association for 30 years. He enjoyed fishing and dancing. Toby had worked at Ford Motor Company a short while before becoming a carpenter.
In addition to his wife, Laura, survivors include: three daughters and two sons-in-law, Penny Jean Shockey and her husband, Sam, of Richmond, Donna Lynn Baker and her husband, Kenny, of Hardin, and Karen Lynne Mathes of Richmond; three brothers and sisters-in-laws, Donald Carmichael and his wife, Rita, of Cowgill, Robert Carmichael and his wife, Debbie, of Richmond, and Melvin Carmichael Jr. and his wife, Linda, of Wood Heights; four sisters and two brothers-in-laws, Betty Lou Davis of Richmond, Melva J. Barb of North Kansas City, Mo., Suzy Kreitz and her husband, Bill, of Polo, and Dee McFee and her husband, Mark, of Richmond; eight grandchildren, Christopher Carmichael, Jessica (Mikie) Pearson, LaQuisha Carmichael, Chelsea Baker, Aaren Mathes, Joel Baker, Kiersten Burnett and Stormie Shockey; and two great-grandchildren, Bailey Pearson and Zoey Baker.
In addition to his parents and first wife, he was preceded in death by his son, Larry Wayne Mathes; brother, Charles Carmichael; special aunt, Lorene “Budgy” Covey; and other family members.

Dixie Rose Lierman (06-30-2009)
Dixie Rose Lierman, 82, of Lexington, passed away Sunday, June 28, 2009, at Shirkey’s Nursing and Rehab Center in Richmond.
Dixie Rose Lierman was born Dec. 30, 1926 in Hardin, the daughter of John and Jessie (McComas) Halterman. She married Benny W. Lierman Aug. 8, 1946; he preceded her in death.
Survivors include: her daughter, Linda Ingalls, of Lexington; one son and daughter-in-law, Michael Lierman and his wife, Brenda, of Lexington; three grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; two sisters, Rebecca Holman, of Hardin, and Gale Green of Richmond; four brothers, G. W. Halterman of Alabama, Roy Halterman of Malta Bend, Robert Halterman of Marshall, and Ronald Halterman of Richmond; and extended family and friends.
In addition to her husband and parents, one brother, three sisters, and her oldest granddaughter preceded her in death.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made in her name to the Lexington Restoration Branch of the Church of Jesus Christ or the Letholt Dialysis Center in Richmond.
Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m., Wednesday, July 1, at the Walker-Nadler-Fuller Funeral Home in Lexington. Memorial services will follow at 2 p.m., at the funeral home. Inurnment will be in Lexington Memory Gardens.

Betty Jean Kubach (06-30-2009)
Betty Jean Kubach, 91, of Independence, passed away June 29, 2009 at her home.
Betty Jean Baker was born March 29, 1918 in Lexington, the daughter of William Frederick and Flora Ann Dunford Baker. She married Billy Truex Kubach on April 4, 1941 in Lexington.
She was a member of St. Paul’s Methodist Church and the Order of the Eastern Star.
Survivors include: three children: Kent Kubach and his wife, Linda, Billy Jean Poulter and her husband, Clint, and Susan M. Marrone and her husband, Benny, all of Independence; one brother, John “Jack” Baker, of Lee’s Summit; one sister, Winnifred Amor, of Costa Mesa, Calif.; seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Billy, on Nov. 17, 2006, her parents, four brothers, Samuel, William F., Alfred, and Harry, and two sisters, Hilda Baker and Jane Dixon.
Memorials may be made to Crossroads Hospice.
Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m., Wednesday, July 1, at Walker-Nadler-Fuller Funeral Home in Lexington. Funeral services will follow the visitation at 11 a.m., at the funeral home. Burial will be in Machpelah Cemetery, Lexington.

John M. Thomas (06-30-2009)
John M. Thomas, 74, of Carrollton, passed away Saturday, June 27, 2009 at his home.
John was born Dec. 7, 1934 in Carrollton, the son of Roy Gilbert and Nellie Elizabeth (Higgins) Thomas. He graduated from Carrollton High School. John was in the U.S. Air Force.
He married Phyllis Ann Eiserer Sept. 4, 1960 at the United Methodist Church in Carrollton; she survives at the home.
In addition to his wife, survivors include: three children, John Christopher Thomas of Carrollton, Angel Koreana Surdin of Albany, N.Y., and Nicole Ann Gerdemann and her husband, Eric, of Columbia; one sister, Sarah Ellen Rearden, of Kansas City, Mo.; two grandchildren, Brittany LeeAnn Bakert and Gramm Oak Gerdemann; and extended family.
His parents, one nephew, one brother-in-law, and one niece preceded him in death.
The family suggests contributions be made to H.E.L.P. Services Cancer Fund or Wyatt House in Columbia, in memory of John. They may be left at or mailed to Gibson Funeral Home.
Visitation was from 12:30 to 2 p.m., Tuesday, June 30, at Gibson Funeral Home in Carrollton. Funeral services followed at 2 p.m., at the funeral home, with Reverend Lee Borders and Reverend Bert Hughes officiating.
