Ray County approves demolition of Henrietta overpass

With no funding available to rebuild and concerns about falling debris, the Henrietta overpass has been approved for demolition. Ray County commissioners voted to move forward with the demolition during a recent meeting after months of discussion about the future of the structure. Commissioner Max Hockemeier recused himself from the discussion and vote, and the remaining commissioners approved the measure without opposition. Commissioners said the decision came after exploring multiple options, including rebuilding the overpass, but ultimately determining the cost was not feasible. “Of course, if we had our wishes, we would build a new overpass in Henrietta, but it’s $10 million to do that, so it doesn’t seem likely for us to be able to do,” said Presiding Commissioner Shelia Tracy. “We have exhausted every avenue.
