Scott experiences ‘learning curve’ as she leads H-C cross country
Jenni Scott finds herself in new territory coaching Hardin-Central cross country this fall.
At Carrollton High School, Scott was a distance runner, she recalled. And since high school, she has run in “several halfmarathons” and a full marathon, she said.
But Scott, who succeeds Kari Winfrey in leading the Bulldogs, said she wasn’t a cross country runner in high school. Nor has she run in cross country races as an adult.
“I’m just not familiar with all the rules with cross country, so it’s been a learning curve for me,” she said Sept. 1 on the Hardin-Central C-2 campus following a training run. “But (I’m) super-excited, because I love running and it’s a lifelong hobby and passion, and lifelong skill, to where anybody can do those things.”
Scott is working with four Bulldogs as she learns the intricacies of cross country, including three junior high runners: sixthgrader Tayler Mead, seventh-grader Levi Tyler and eighth-grader Josie Missel. Drew Hawkins, a junior and a member of…
