Richmond girls break school relay record at districts
CHILLICOTHE – A 32-year-old Richmond track record has fallen.
Varsity coach Andy Frerking and Athletic Director Matt Habermehl reported Monday that Kaylee Pugh, Sydney Appleberry, Abrey Oldham and Brook Weber broke the school’s girls 800-meter relay record of 1 minute, 49.95 seconds, with their time of 1:49.36 May 14 at the Class 3 District 8 meet.
Pugh felt “really shocked” about the time, she said. She and Oldham “started jumping up, screaming” after the record announcement, Pugh said.
“I felt like we did … (well), but I didn’t know we did that,” she said.
The girls won the 800 relay and another event. Lexi Bokarae, who graduated Sunday, won the shot put by throwing 10.38 meters.
“There was a lot of good competition,” Bokarae said. “I had a lot of other teammates that lifted me up and it really helped.”
With their victories, the 800 relay team and Bokarae qualified for the Sectional 4 meet, slated Saturday at Odessa. The top four placers in each event qualified, per Missouri…
