Prosecutor explains dismissed case numbers

Concerns about dismissed cases prompted Ray County Prosecuting Attorney Camille Johnston to address questions from commissioners about the way her office handles dismissed charges. Johnston said the discussion followed an earlier meeting in which commissioners presented her with a packet listing dismissed cases and raised concerns about the total number. She told commissioners she later pulled a report from her office’s system to confirm the figures and provide additional context. “You guys had mentioned you got a list of all the stuff that I had dismissed in our meeting the other day, and you said I had over 100,” stated Johnston. “So I pulled our report in our system.” Johnston noted the report showed 123 dismissed cases, including 66 felonies, 50 misdemeanors and seven infractions.
