Two Lafayette County men died in a head-on collision Sunday morning on Highway 13, just south of Slusher School Road.

A 1994 Ford, driven by Ronald A. Mason, 32, of Lexington, crossed the center line and directly struck the 1989 Buick, driven by James F. Brown, 59, of Higginsville, at 1:50 a.m. Sunday. Both men were pronounced dead on scene by Lafayette Coroner Daljeet Singh. Neither man was wearing safety belts. After the collision, Mason’s vehicle overturned and caught fire, according to the Highway Patrol crash reports. Residents in the area said they heard a loud noise from the car explosion.

Highway Patrol Troop A is investigating the crash. Lafayette County Sheriff’s Department and the Higginsville Police assisted the Highway Patrol at the scene.
