A two-car accident Monday claimed the lives of two Ray County women and hospitalized two individuals.
A southbound 2008 Lincoln Towncar driven by Tommy O’Dell, 77, Richmond, on U.S. Highway 65 crossed the center line between 9 and 10 a.m. Nov. 30. It struck a northbound 2007 Chevrolet pickup pulling a cattle trailer, killing Shirley A. O’Dell, 74, Richmond, and Caroline A. Rogers, 70, Henrietta.
Lillian M. Collins, 76, Henrietta, was taken by air to St. Luke’s Hospital in Kansas City and is listed in fair condition on Wednesday morning. Tommy O’Dell was taken to St. Luke’s and was treated and released.
Rogers and Shirley O’Dell were both parishioners at First Baptist Church of Henrietta. Pastor Mark Hibbard dispelled rumors the two women were en route to a church function, saying the two had left for a getaway to Branson.
“Scripture tells us that being absent from the body is being home with the Lord. We know their eternal destiny,” Hibbard said Tuesday. “We rejoice for them, but it leaves a huge void in our heart.”
Hibbard said he would remember Shirley O’Dell and Rogers as “mission-minded,” in particular, recalling Rogers putting her disaster-relief training to work by helping refugees in New Orleans. He called both women important parts of the church family, and said their deaths are “a huge loss.”
Memorial services for Shirley O’Dell will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 5, at First Baptist Church of Henrietta, with cremation in lieu of a burial. Funeral services for Caroline Rogers will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 4, at Thurman Funeral Home with burial at Richmond Memory Garden. Click on the obituaries link for full obituaries.
