Santa Claus will make his first appearance in Richmond at 7 p.m. Monday – but not by sleigh. Santa’s friends at the Richmond fire station will escort him by fire truck to the square.
The jolly guy will visit with area children on the first floor of the Ray County Courthouse. A professional photographer will be on site to take photos of children with Santa for a fee. Parents are welcome to bring their own cameras as well.
New this year are horse-drawn buggy and carriage rides for a tour around the square, beginning at 5 p.m. The cost is $5, with children under 6 free.
Richmond Area Chamber’s Christmas Trees Extravaganza continues today until 3 p.m. Monday. The chamber office, located at 104 W. North Main, will have special hours this weekend. They will be open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and noon to 3 p.m. on Sunday. Dozens of decorated wreaths, greenery and trees, donated by area businesses, are on display. Interested parties can vote for their favorite Christmas tree or wreath by purchasing tickets, which are $1 each or 6 tickets for $5. The lucky winners will be announced by Chamber President Johnna Bowman on Monday night during the event.
On that evening, beginning at 6:30 p.m., Miss Ray County Taylor Cotton will emcee the event and perform, as well as Richmond High School’s Band at the north side of courthouse. Sunrise Elementary’s fourth and fifth grade honor choir will sing before the annual lighting of the Mayor’s Christmas tree. The 20-foot tree will arrive today.
