Bill Cain of Richmond was one of the VFW members distributing VFW Buddy Poppies at the intersection of Thornton and East Main on Richmond’s square Saturday.

Cain said many motorists gave free will donations. The money goes toward the VFW’s Service Officer Program, which is funded $500,000 annually from VFW dues and poppy sales, to help veterans connect with receiving VA benefits. The VFW/American Legion Color Guard will serve in the annual Veterans Day program at 11 a.m. Wednesday on the east side of Ray County Courthouse. Rep. Bob Nance is guest speaker.
