Ray County is rocking, rumbling and feasting this weekend and it all starts tonight. There’s something for everyone. Get out and enjoy the nice weather and the festivities.

“The Actor’s Nightmare,” a one-act play directed by Becky Daniel, a 2009 RHS graduate, will be presented tonight at 7 p.m., at the Farris Theatre. The evening will begin with performances by local musicians and a bake sale auction. The play will begin after intermission. All donations go towards the historic theater.

From 7 to 8:30 p.m., be sure to attend Concert in the Park series at the Richmond City Hall gym and listen to the Christian rock music of “Damascus Road.” Feedback from people who have attended the Concert in the Park series is that the bands are “great” and the crowds “should be much larger.” It’s a great opportunity to listen to professional bands for a donation.

It’s “Carnival Time, Fun Time, Memory Time” from 1 to 5 p.m. Friday, at Shirkey Nursing and Rehabilitation Center and the public is invited to bring your families and have fun. Carnival-type games include ring toss, duck pond, and dart throw where you can win prizes. Enjoy free hamburgers and hotdogs. Have your picture taken in the Little Mermaid and Flounder or Shrek and Donkey cutouts. Choose a favorite sweet treat from the bake sale. A big attraction is the Dunk Tank, featuring Administrator Chris Brown and Shirkey employee Kathy Lasiter as just a few of the ‘targets.’ Proceeds will benefit the Shirkey’s Alzheimer Unit and the Alzheimer’s Memory Walk that will be held in October.

Rock group “Blind McGike” performs from 7 to 8:30 p.m., at the Richmond City Hall gym in the Concert in the Park series.

At 7 p.m., the Orrick Music Jam will kick off at the Orrick Community Center. If you have a voice, bring it and share your talent at the open mike. If you don’t, then come and enjoy listening to those that do. Admission is free, however donations are appreciated and benefit the center.

Saturday is the Ray County Fair Horse Show, to be held at the arena in Rayville. Call Donna Vermillion at 816-296-3113 for more information.

Attention homemade ice cream lovers! Make the trip to Stet for the Stet Volunteer Firemen’s Annual Ice Cream Supper at the Stet Fire Barn. The event is from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Follow the crowd to the Junction of K and JJ in Stet to find an array of homemade desserts and the area-known homemade ice cream. Donations will be appreciated.

After having homemade ice cream in Stet, head for Hardin to attend the 13th Annual Tractor Pull at the American Legion Park. The event is Saturday, beginning at 6 p.m. Awarded “Pull of the Year” 10 times in a row, the event features over 25 classes, including non-turbos, profiled, 2-wheel drives, prostock 4x4s, modified tractors, diesel pickups, light prostock tractors, limited prostock and an open class. Two pulling tracks keep the action going. Food will be available to purchase at the Young Farm Wives’ concessions. There are plenty of bleachers, but lawn chairs are welcome. Event-goers can bring coolers for a picnic. For insurance purposes, no alcohol is requested. Money raised from this event provides scholarships for local youth.

Tractor Pull Chairman Dale Wollard said they are still receiving entries, from southern Iowa, eastern Illinois and all across Missouri.

“Last year, we had over 200 entries before it got ‘rained out,’” said Wollard. When the heavy rains came, 125 contestants still braved the conditions. The forecast for Saturday, however, is for dry conditions.

“We have record crowds on a 90 to 95 degree day. I don’t know what to expect with a cool night.” Temperatures are expected in the mid-80s. Hardin, are you ready to ‘rumble?’

Henrietta comes to life at 6 p.m., on Saturday night too, holding the Gospel Opry at the United Pentecostal Church, 604 Main. Come and enjoy some good gospel music with your family and friends – or any of the activities slated in the county this weekend.
