Day of Prayer will bring inspiration to Ray County

Millions of people across the United States will take part in the 57th Annual National Day of Prayer on Thursday, May 1. Area citizens wishing to join in the prayer efforts will have several opportunities throughout the day to do so.
At 10:30 a.m., the First Baptist Church of Polo, located at 110 East Elm Street invites members of the Polo community and surrounding areas to come together for prayer at the church. For more information or for directions to the church, call 660-354-3109 or email buckall7@aol.com.
At noon on Thursday individuals are encouraged to gather at the Ray County Courthouse in Richmond to pray for those serving our communities. The ceremony will begin with the presentation of our nation’s colors and the recital of the Pledge of Allegiance. The service will conclude with song and a circle of prayer.
Those who are unable to attend the early events will have an opportunity to attend evening events instead.
At 5 p.m., Orrick First Baptist Church, located at 301 Adams Street, and Henrietta First Baptist Church, 100 West 6th Street, will host Prayer Walks. At 7 p.m., individuals are once again invited to the Ray County Courthouse for an evening Prayer Walk.
The National Day of Prayer, created in 1952 by a joint resolution of the United States Congress and signed into law by Missouri native, President Harry S. Truman, provides an open opportunity for communities to intercede for America’s leaders and its families.
