At 7:30 p.m., the Richmond choirs will present their Spring Music Concert at the Farris Theatre, located at 301 West Main St. in Richmond.

Friday, May 9
Beginning with registration at 7:30 a.m., the Iron Sharpens Iron Tractor Club is sponsoring a tractor caravan. The caravan will depart from Lawson Baptist Church at 8:30 a.m. and travel through Polo, Lathrop, Holt and Watkins Mill, ending back at Lawson Baptist Church. From 5 to 8 p.m., the Downtown Excelsior Partnership will be hosting the monthly Second Fridays Art Crawl in Excelsior Springs. The Crawl will boast six locations, Gallery 105, Frame of Mind, The Olde English Garden Shoppe, Willow Springs Mercantile, Choreography of Memories and Pearl’s. Saturday, May 10
Today is Lexington’s City-Wide Garage Sale, sponsored by the Lexington Chamber of Commerce. For more information or to reserve booth space, contact the Chamber office at 660-259-3082.

The Ray County Genealogical Association meeting scheduled for today has been cancelled. The next meeting will be Saturday, June 14.

From 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., the Richmond Cheerleaders will be holding a car wash at Wal-Mart in Richmond. The monies raised will go toward the $295 per person cost of cheerleader camp this summer.

From 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., the Orrick Lions Club will host their Annual Fish Fry. Adults will enjoy fish, baked beans, cole slaw, dessert and a drink for $8 with children 12 and under eating for $4 each. The Lions Club is located on Front Street in Orrick.

At 6:30 p.m., The Country Hoe Down will be held at the Legion Hall, located at 385 Main St., in Holt. All ages are welcome to perform or listen to acoustic bluegrass, country and gospel music. From 10 a.m to noon, Pisgah Baptist Church will be holding a 7-week Beth Moore Bible Study, “Stepping Up.” These will be held every Monday through June 2. Workbook is $20. Tuesday, May 13
At 1:30 p.m., The Allen-Morton-Watkins Chapter of NSDAR will meet at the Richmond United Methodist Church, located at Main and Camden streets. The speaker will be Conservation Agent, Tammy Pierson. The topic will be “Promoting Education and Preservation Through Conservation.” Hostesses will be Jenne Layman and Lulabelle Baker.

Wednesday, May 14
From 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., the City of Lexington is holding their “Second Saturday” open air market, sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce. At 9 a.m., an Awards Assembly will be held at Richmond High School in the RHS gymnasium.

At 8 p.m., the RHS Cheerleaders will be hosting a middle school dance contest at the Farris Theatre in Richmond. The cost to get in will be $2 and all money raised will help fund this summer’s cheerleader camp. The contest will be run similar to the RMS Idol contest held earlier in the year. Come one and all!

Thursday, May 15
From 5 to 7 p.m., Sunrise Elementary invites the public to a Spring Fling event at the school, located at 401 Matt Waller Drive in Richmond.

Saturday, May 17
From 9:30 to 11 a.m., Angel Food will be distributed at Richmond Nazarene Church, located at 411 South Shaw in Richmond. Bring your receipt and a box or container for each order. All orders must be picked up at this time. Any food unclaimed will be donated to others in need.

Beginning at 10 a.m., the first 150 guests at each Build-A-Bear Workshop are invited to participate in “Stuffed with Hugs: Your Gift. Your Choice,” to make a white, fluffy puppy for free that will be donated to one of three causes. The causes include children’s health and wellness organizations, SuperSibs! and the Sunshine Kids Foundation; literacy programs through First Book; or humane education programs through Pet Shelters Across America. The participating workshops in our area include the Build-A-Bear Workshops at Independence Center, 2035 Independence Center Drive, Independence Mo. Beginning at 5:15 p.m., The Richmond Ministerial Alliance will hold the 2008 Richmond High School Baccalaureate Service at the Richmond High School gym. Events will include a photo shoot of the graduates in cap and gown, a service of music, scripture and prayer, and a message of encouragement from Pastor Michael Schnelle.

At 7 p.m., The Country Shindig will be held at the Lawson Community Center, located at Third and Pennsylvania in Lawson. The Shindig includes three hours of various musical presentations, all in the “old” style. Snacks and drinks will be served. Admission is free, however, free-will donations will be accepted. Sunday, May 18
At 11 a.m., there will be a Bake Sale for the Relay for Life at Wal-Mart in Richmond. The team name is Vicki’s Girls in honor of Vicki Danner.

At 3 p.m., Richmond High School will hold the 2008 graduation ceremonies at the RHS Spartan Stadium. In case of inclement weather, graduation will be held in the gymnasium.

Monday, May 19
From 7 to 8 p.m., Take off Pounds Sensibly (T.O.P.S.), will celebrate their 40th anniversary with an Open House at 501 North Spartan Drive in Richmond. The public is welcome to attend.
