Fixing the bridges of Ray County

“Can’t get there from here” may be as good a description as any for the bridge repairs that are under way – or will soon start – in Ray County.

Work has already started on two Missouri Department of Transportation Safe & Sound projects here, and no fewer than five more are scheduled to start next month and early this fall.

A listing of all seven projects follows, as does the Web site address that provides information on projected start dates, detour routes and the estimated time of construction.

The work will eventually impact traffic on state Highway 10, and state routes A, K, T, B and E. Two of the projects are on Route A, including one that’s now under way.

The biggest of the seven, replacement of bridge decking on Highway 10 at Fishing River, started early this month. The bridge is in far western Ray County, a few hundred yards from Excelsior Springs and Clay County.

It handles around 7,500 cars a day, making it by far the busiest of the bridges on MoDOT’s Ray County schedule.

The official state detour for the Fishing River bridge instructs westbound drivers to follow B Highway to the Lawson area, then head west again to link up with state Highway 69.
