KC woman arrested in Ray Co. police chase

A Kansas City woman is in Ray County custody on a $25,000 bond following a high-speed chase Wednesday morning.

Missouri Highway Patrol Sgt.Norman Rodenberg chased 25-year-old Jenika R. Smith and a passenger – Smith’s 4-year-old daughter – across Ray County and into Carroll County before he and a Carroll County Sheriff’s Department deputy apprehended her around 7:30 a.m. Wednesday.

The woman now faces multiple traffic-violation charges and felony fleeing arrest, second-degree assault on a law enforcement officer, first-degree endangering the welfare of a child, tampering and first-degree property damage charges.

Smith was driving a black 2002 Chevrolet Monte Carlo with her 4-year-old daughter, an unrestrained passenger, according to the Highway Patrol arrest report. Rodenberg spotted Smith driving 86 mph eastbound on Highway 210 at Bruns Road in Ray County. Smith swerved into westbound traffic and forced two vehicles to the shoulder.
